We are excited to share a peek inside our 4th-grade social studies classrooms! This Fall, our 4th grade students are embarking on a journey across the country with a brand-new Interactive Digital Notebook in Google Slides. Ms. Thompson created one for her students, that is aligned with the Massachusetts social studies curriculum. This digital tool helps our students explore Map Skills and the Regions of the United States in an engaging, hands-on way.
What’s Inside the Digital Notebook?
Instead of traditional paper workbooks, students use their Chromebooks to interact directly with geography content, primary sources, and maps:
- Interactive Map Building: Students drag and drop geographic symbols onto high-resolution maps to identify landforms, major rivers, and regional landmarks.
- Exploring US Regions: From the rocky coasts of the Northeast to the grand canyons of the Southwest, students explore how physical geography, climate, and history shape different regions.
- Primary Source Detective Work: Learners examine historical photos, maps, and artifacts to discover the rich history and cultures of Native Peoples across North America.
- Built-in Support: To support every learner, the notebook features embedded videos to help solidify understanding.
💡 Why We Love It. This digital format keeps all student work organized in one easy-to-find place—no lost papers or misplaced folders! It also allows students to build critical digital literacy skills, such as navigating tabs, analyzing media, and organizing information digitally, while learning key social studies concepts.
