Building Big Digital Skills in Little Hands: Welcome to the New School Year!

Welcome back to a brand-new school year! As the K-2 Digital Learning Specialist, I am thrilled to share how our youngest learners have jumped headfirst into building essential technology skills across our classrooms.

The start of the year is all about laying a strong foundation—learning not just how to use our devices, but how to care for them responsibly and use them as powerful tools for learning. Here is a peek at what our students have been working on:

Kindergarten: iPad Discoveries & Digital Citizenship
Our Kindergarteners are getting hands-on experience with iPads! We are focusing heavily on digital citizenship and learning how to handle devices responsibly.

Logging In: Students are learning the exciting milestone of logging into their own digital accounts independently.

Curriculum Enhancement: These iPads will serve as a gateway to engaging, supplemental math and reading programs tailored to extend and enrich their daily classroom instruction.

1st Grade: Meeting Chromebooks & Mastering Seesaw
First graders transitioned to Chromebooks this fall, taking on new responsibility with a bigger device.

Device Care & Handling: We are learning how to carry our Chromebooks safely with two hands, close the lids gently, and keep them protected.

Keyboard & Trackpad Mastery: Little fingers are working hard on keyboarding skills! Students are learning how to capitalize their names, navigate the trackpad, and control the cursor with precision.

Seesaw Activities: We are actively using Seesaw to complete interactive activities that directly support and enhance our grade-level curriculum.

2nd Grade: Hitting the Ground Running
Our 2nd graders are already Chromebook pros! Building on the strong habits established last year, they have hit the ground running.

Math Program Integration: Students have already dove into supplemental math programs on their Chromebooks to deepen their conceptual understanding and practice problem-solving skills.

We are so proud of the independence, care, and curiosity our K-2 students are showing every day. Technology in our school is more than just screen time—it is a launchpad for creativity, skill-building, and personalized learning.
